{Many prospects will ask freelancers to do a sample work for free just to gauge their skills and I want to ask if anyone has done something like it? I just think it is unfair that you won't get paid for a work done, whether it's spec or a trial job. Will you say yes or no? What's your take on this subject?

Crowdsourcing is soon going to occupy more space on internet and will start permeating more spheres of business. Crowdsourcing will mean:
1. More Technological/ Scientific Solutions
2. More Creative Solutions
3. Crowdsourcing of Technologies
4. Crowdsourcing Ideas for new product development
The3iportal has already started working on these crowdsourcing areas (recently). Time to wait and see more of industries catching the bandwagon!!

Happy Crowdsourcing,
Nitin

Thanks Dan, and welcome to Boston (noticed you just moved). Two quick events of note this week, since you're new to town:

Thanks for clarifying Carmen - I should have been clearer that OnDemand gets you access to a broader range of stuff, which happens to include the conference videos.

Given all the tremendous interest throughout the media space in general in "pay-for-content online" models of various kinds, and the tremendous pressure from free videos broadly available, it is unusual to see a conference provider make videos available but behind a pay wall, even if it is (as you note) as part of a broader offering.

Hi John,

Thanks for being such an engaged attendee of mediabistro's events.

Our conference video coverage is a bonus for subscribers of Mediabistro On Demand, our library of educational video content. The library features original educational content, such as Crash Courses, that we produce in-house and make available as a supplement to our in-person and online classes. Students can get step-by-step advice on launching a job search or managing their digital life. The bonus conference video shows them how leaders in the field are putting some of these ideas into practice.

The entire library is available for $19 per month:

Crowd-sourcing is a brilliant solution for the companies that don't see value in design--that it's just something on a to-do list. Hiring a "master" or "journeyman" designer is a solid move for companies that hope to use design as a competitive advantage.

I think it's a different product for a different type of consumer. If you do or don't like crowd-sourcing, just present yourself appropriately. Awesome post!
