Once more with Feeling: WPBook 2.0.3

That’s what I get for trying to make too many changes in one release. Sheesh.

WPBook 2.0.2, released last night, is already superseded by 2.0.3, which I just tagged for release.

Bugs fixed:

  • Extra whitespace in wpbook.php after the closing ?> tag
  • Cleaned up includes to break on functions rather than midstream

I think that will solve the most immediate issue folks are having.

As always, let me know what you’re seeing here or in the support forums.

  1. I have this error when trying to upgrade to wpbook 2.0.4

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare wpbook_activate() (previously declared in D:\Hosting\2793587\html\mienque.net\wp-content\plugins\wpbook\wpbook.php:77) in D:\Hosting\2793587\html\mienque.net\wp-content\plugins\wpbook\wpbook.php on line 80

  2. sweetpotato – what version of WordPress are you running?

Have you deactivated, and re-activated the plugin during the upgrade process?

What version of WPBook were you coming from, to 2.0.4?

  3. Hello,

I got wpbook working to the point of streaming to my wall… but I am unable to get wpbook to stream to my fan page.

I am an admin for the page, and I have granted permission to the page. When I check the permissions I see the page listed with a message stating” This page has granted stream.publish permissions to this app.”

I have no idea what is wrong.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

  4. Have you added the application (tab) to your page?

Have you enabled “show errors” in the WPBook settings in WordPress? Does any error occur when you try to publish?

Have you generated and saved an infinite session key?

  5. Ciao John!
    Same problem for me..
I can’t show the wall comments inside the app..
    Help please

    Regards

  6. Will your plugin do what I am looking for? I want to be able to post on wordpress and then automatically take that post and put it on our Facebook page. We have created an Application page and a fan page. I would prefer to use the fan page. Please let me know if this is possible as I have tried your plugin and all I get is the canvas page with all of our posts. I want it to post to a facebook wall so all of the readers can see it in the news feed.

  7. Yes, WPBook does exactly what you subscribe (and much more).

You say that you have tried WPBook “and all I get is the canvas page with our posts” – did you follow the included instructions?

See http://wpbook.net/docs/, specifically step 3 which describes posting to the wall of a personal page or a Fan page (but note you will need to have done steps 1 and 2 correctly before step 3 will work).

If you’ve followed those instructions and still are not successfully posting WordPress blog posts to your wall, please open a thread in the support forum and provide troubleshooting information:

    • what you have done so far, in some detail
    • what’s not working, also in detail (what behavior are you expecting, what do you see instead)
    • The urls are for your Facebook application (created in the process of installing WPBook) and your WordPress hosted blog (outside of Facebook).

In general, in my experience, 95% of the time the issue is a misconfiguration of the Facebook settings, the WordPress WPBook settings, or both.

4% of the time it is a misunderstanding of what WPBook does and does not do.

1% of the time it is a bug in the software, which is great to discover so that it can be fixed.

  8. Hello!

I would like to update a Facebook Group Wall with your great plugin, but i´m not sure, how I can do that.

I hope you can help me.

    Thanks!

P.s. Sorry for my bad english.

  9. Do you specifically mean the wall of a Facebook “Group” as distinct from a Facebook “Page”?

The walls of Groups are not currently supported by WPBook, but I can look into including them in a later version, as I believe they work more or less like pages, at least with respect to stream publish functions.

  10. Check out WPBook 2.0.8, which does this.

Just put the group ID where it asks for the PageID of a Facebook Page to update.

You’ll need to make sure your personal FB ID has granted permission to the app, and that you are able to write on the group’s wall.

  11. Oh yes I mean this function! Thank you very much.
On a Facebook Page your great plugin has published my stream.
But in actually version I get by publishing or saving a article this error:
Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at …/page/wp-content/plugins/wpbook/wpbook.php:1) in …/page/wp-includes/pluggable.php on line 890

    Sometimes I can read this:
Fatal error: Cannot use string offset as an array in …/page/wp-content/plugins/wpbook/publish_to_facebook.php on line 151

Whats the problem? How can we solve this?

  12. Get 2.0.8.1 – just checked in.

Somehow I managed to get some whitespace ahead of the open php tag in the main file – not sure how that happened actually.

  13. Partially.

You could add WPBook to the secondary blog, and enter the same Application ID and Secret.

WPBook would be able to publish excerpts to the wall when you publish new posts on your secondary blog, and would (I think – haven’t tested it) be able to import comments made on Facebook against those posts.

What won’t work, though, is the Facebook application view (The one that looks like apps.facebook.com/yourappname) or the profile tabs – since the Facebook Application only allows one url for canvas page and one url for profile tabs.

So, on the secondary blog, you’d have to use the “promote external urls” setting which would send people to your blog posts outside WPBook.

Finally, when excerpts are posted to your FB wall there is a little “via” entry which points to your FB application’s profile page – but that would essentially direct people to your primary blog’s application and canvas.

So, kind a mixed bag – better to create another FB application unless you’re ok with all the limitations above.

If you do try this, let me know how it works in case others want to do so – WPBook has always basically assumed a 1:1 relationship between a WordPress blog and a Facebook application, so you’d be in new territory.

  14. John, thanks for you quick reply. I opted to go with a new app and use my fan page I had set up before for the two blogs’ feeds to publish via networked blogs. I still use the networked blog app during the transition, but I changed the settings so it no longer publishes to the wall, only WPBook does now.

I had hoped to use the option on the fb application edit screen to have it pull from the subdomains, but I can’t get that set quite right. If I had been able to pull from the subdomains I was going to maintain only the app page and delete the fan page (gosh that title sounds so arrogant to me). I’ll stick with maintaining the fan page and pull in the feeds via the two apps.

Thank you so much for doing this.
